Two hundred meters above the waterfall is Izbucul Bigar which springs from a cave. Water from the Bigăr spring deposited calcium carbonate deposits, which were covered with moss over time, creating the Bigăr waterfall. A waterfall of this type continuously grows in size as calcium carbonate petrifies the moss and replaces it with fresh layers of moss.
