Cathedral Rock – One of The Best Places to See in Sedona Arizona

Cathedral Rock is one of the best places to see in Sedona, Arizona. When it comes to the most iconic views of Sedona, Cathedral Rock is at the apex. Whether you’re driving from Oak Creek Village into town or walking down Highway 179 towards your destination point on top of viewings, you’re sure not disappointed by this natural beauty! Cathedral Rock is one of the most iconic and photographed sites in Arizona’s Red Rock Country.
The Cathedral Rock formation is a popular hiking spot in the Coconino National Forest. It can be found about 1 mile west of Arizona Route 179 and just south on Route 89A from its “Y” intersection, with both directions leading towards Sedona’s main town square. Cathedral Rock’s elevation is 4,967 feet, and you’ll find plenty more attractions for your enjoyment if this isn’t enough already!
Geologically, Cathedral Rock is a red bed sandstone formed from coastal Pedregosa sea dunes. Ripple marks can be seen along the lower trail, and black basalt may appear in the first saddle area of this hike or trail. Cathedral rock has been called courthouse or church house rock since its discovery because it was thought to have some religious significance for those early explorers who named these stones in accordance with their cultures.
The sandstone formation looms high above the surrounding desert landscape, with streaks of red and orange contrasting against the blue sky. It is no wonder that this natural wonder has been featured in movies and television shows, such as “The Lone Ranger” and “Breaking Bad.” If you are ever in the area, be sure to stop by Cathedral Rock for a breathtaking view!
Many people have favorite memories of living in Arizona from hiking around this beautiful site. The hike to the top is moderate, making it perfect for families or groups of friends. Once you reach the summit, you are rewarded with an incredible panoramic view of the area. Cathedral Rock is a must-see for any visitor to Arizona!
The most beautiful sunset you’ll ever see in the world It started out with a few native people who set up this perfect scene and then waited for it to get dark before going down in headlights—because there’s nothing like motioning your hands across the steering wheel while driving towards what looks like an abstract painting (the stars!) at night! As long as you’re fit enough and have good shoes—like these ones here—go ahead and do yourself another favor: make your trip memorable.
