Rise to a Higher Plane – How and when will we give ourselves permission to love ourselves and others fully? It should be done immediately and without conditions. This means that trusting others must be instantaneous, right? Not at all. The act of transmitting love requires no trust on the part of the recipient. Criminals and miscreants can be loved.
In spite of the fact that they do not choose to sense or express their divinity, and even though they attempt to corrupt the incorruptible, we can recognize their divinity as fellow humans and children of God. No matter how ignorant or cruel a being may be, or how cruel they may be in their behavior, they will ultimately return to love. Indifference and hatred are the only results of avoiding this truth.
In any relationship, trust is essential. To win our commitment to romantic or intimate love, someone must win our hearts. Loving energy can be received from us without doing anything. No one deserves love or only a few are entitled to it. All are given freely by the divine hand. Are all choices and behaviors to be accepted and respected?
That’s not right. Other people can be rejected, reformated, or even punished for their wrongdoing. The fact that we have to deal with bad behavior does not mean that we must lessen ourselves or compromise our role as loving beings. Selfish and callous children can be punished without becoming selfish and callous.
Even if we do not condone a prisoner’s behavior, we can help him gain basic human rights. If someone trespasses against us, we can forgive them without giving them power over us. The result is that we can have a divine intent for everyone we meet, regardless of whether they deserve it, asked for it, or reciprocated it. The love that emanates from us can be independent of the intent or behavior of another. Whenever we look at someone, and make a gesture toward them, we are releasing a magnificent spiritual power, and we don’t expect a return in return.
Our love can be unleashed into the world for no other reason than that it is in our nature to do so. The virtue of love, like any other virtue, must be consciously wrought, chosen from all the angelic and wretched impulses that are available at any moment. Therefore, in order to attain greatness and be generous with love, we must be aware of our own weaknesses and propensities for evil. It is only by remembering that we can teeter into the darkness that we will be able to find the light.
Being compassionate and loving requires us to remember the dangers of cruelty. The human race is not made up of angels; the human race is made up of humans. We should nevertheless strive to rise to a higher level. It is not necessary for us to love ourselves in order to sense and amplify love. However, let us strive to love ourselves as well.
It serves no one to believe we should first love ourselves before loving others because it simply permits us to wait for a good day to do so. If we have insecurities, should we keep love from others? It is only through allowing love to flow through us that it can be expressed, not by attempting to own it or sense some sense of completeness or perfection. There is no need for us to be perfect because love is perfect. For us to appreciate and adore anyone else, we must appreciate and adore every aspect of ourselves.
Our goal should be to accept and love ourselves, but we can equally dislike any particular attitude or behavior that hinders our freedom, happiness, and connection with others. While we can change things about ourselves that we don’t like, we don’t need to wait to fix those things before we shine that light of love on others. When we allow our own light to shine through to others, we will not wait until the fantastic, mythical bright day when we are perfect and full of happiness.
