An ancient burial site perched on a hill overlooking a bay can be found at the Auchagallon Stone Circle. One of Scotland’s most picturesque islands, you can see an ancient burial site perched on a hill overlooking a bay. At Machrie, just north of the golf course, the stones can be found near the intersection of Shore Road and Brodick Road.
In Auchengallon Stone Circle, a Neolithic or Bronze Age burial cairn is surrounded by fifteen stones, the remains of a burial cairn. This is a small village on the Isle of Arran in Scotland near Machrie. On a slight edge of a west-facing slope, the cairn and stone circle overlook Machrie Bay. Machrie Water area, renowned for the stone circles of Machrie Moor, includes Auchengallon, part of the rich and archaeologically diverse landscape.
In total, fifteen blocks of varying heights are arranged throughout the circle. Two of the stones are pale gray granite, but most are red sandstone. Their diameter is around 14.5 meters. The stones around it have been graded, with those on the west side, downhill side, being more substantial than those on the east side, uphill side. The monument’s outer edge is reddish sandstone monoliths that are irregularly spaced.
A large stone cairn stands in the center. Despite the fact that no other remains have been found here, antiquarians dug a burial cist in the middle of this site in the 19th century. Despite its modern name, the monument was most likely built as a kerbed cairn. There is a lovely view of Machrie Bay from the top of a sloping hill. According to Bryce’s source in 1910, there is no record of excavation and there is a vague account of a stone robbing.
