An environmental protection area and a dunes complex are part of Genipabu Beach, which is located close to Natal. This is one of the most famous postcard spots in Rio Grande do Norte. Due to the strong winds along the Rio Grande do Norte coastline, Genipabu Beach’s dunes move from one point to another.
Genipabu, also known as Jenipabu, is used for buggy rides and formerly for dromedary rides. In 2020, camel rides on the dunes won’t be available as easily as they were in the past. Using a wooden board, people slide the dunes around the lake in a sport called “esquibunda”.
The famous buggy rides can be enjoyed in two ways in the local area,
  1. With emotion: a risky ride
  2. Without emotion: a safe one
It is important to remember, however, that only authorized professionals who are responsible for both the safety of tourists and the environment should be hired. Genipabu has a wide range of things to do and places to visit. A day trip to Genipabu is possible from Natal, usually in a buggy. A camel ride and a buggy tour can be taken from the top of the landmark sand dune. It is also a great place to watch the sunset from the dune. A popular activity known as eski-bunda involves sliding down the dunes. The lake is a great place for paddle boating and nautical sports. Freshwater lagoons are a good way to beat the heat.
Moreover, if you are true nature lover, you can explore nearby vegetation and listen the surrounding sounds, that helps in soothing mind and body. The surrounding area is so relaxing and peaceful.
