Mihailo Tolotos – The Only Man in the World Never Saw a Woman
462
The tragic start to Mihailo Tolotos’ life occurred when his mother passed away four hours after he was born in 1856. A young boy was abandoned by his family on Mount Athos after his father and family members did not come forward.
He was fortunate enough to find a new home at the monastery. A strict set of rules prevented Mihailo Tolotos from interacting with the outside world or interacting with women. They were forbidden to enter monasteries or set foot on the mountain. It was permitted for male tourists to visit, but most came for the experience of monastic life or as aspiring monks.
Mihailo Tolotos lived a life of seclusion, was shielded from the external world, and never interacted with women. A woman’s appearance was never seen by him until 1938 when he died at the age of 82. His death news was published in a newspaper as follows. It is indeed remarkable that a man from the 19th century passed away without ever meeting a woman.
The fact that he has never seen a woman in his 82 years of life seems unbelievable. The monk Toloto died at Mount Athos, a monastery in Greece. Neither an automobile, a movie, nor an airplane had ever been seen by him. At the time of his birth, his mother died. According to Athens, he was raised in a monastery, where no woman ate.
Mihailo Tolotos could have easily met an individual of the opposite sex in the wider world, but he never left Mount Athos over the decades. As a monk, he was given a special burial ceremony because he had never seen a woman, according to the monastery monks.
