An incredible 8-kilometer walkway along the bank of the Paiva River in Arouca, Portugal.

The Paiva Walkways were opened in July 2015, and the route begins at the river beach Areinho and finishes at another beach, Espiunca. Last year, in September, a devastating wildfire damaged over 600 meters of wooden walkways. However, the authorities have done restoration work quite briskly and reopened for the public. Arouca Municipality and the engineering firm Trimetrica constructed the passive walkways.

The Paiva walkways are more than merely a simple walk in nature. This unique experience is an infrastructure that interferes as little as possible with the surrounding environment. it continues along the topography, with rest stops and strategic panoramic points positioned to admire the view. Hikers are bestowed with stunning natural views to capture the route’s dizzying directions, documenting different parts of the path and its relationship to the marvelous landscape.

It is not necessary to walk 8 kilometers back and forth because, at the conclusion of the route, you can take a cab or jeep for 16–17 euros. Tourists can rent a car and drive to the trailhead, join a group tour, or schedule a private tour. It is crucial to note that there is no public transit to the trailhead, so tourists should prepare accordingly.
