Nambe Falls is a waterfall located near the village of Nambe, New Mexico, USA. It is situated in the Santa Fe National Forest and is a popular spot for hiking, picnicking, and fishing. The waterfall cascades over a cliff into a large pool below. The adjacent area is lush green, providing soothing to the eyes and mind.
In the Southwest Desert, you would expect an arid area. There is an unexpected waterfall that surprises you in the northwestern part of New Mexico. That is called Name Falls or Nambé Falls, located on the back of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains about 30 miles north of Santa Fe. The height of a two-tier waterfall is 100 feet and 75 feet, respectively.
Nambe Falls has massive potential to be one of the biggest tourist attractions in this area. The fall’s alluring views looking downstream make it a special picnic place. Further, there is an imposing 150-foot dam and spillway directly above the waterfall. Though the dam erodes the scenic allure of waterfalls, it serves the main purpose of providing water to the Nambe people.
Nambe Falls also provides a chance to offset the desert heat in the seemingly reliably flowing rushing creek. Nambe Falls overlooks the steepness and roughness of the scramble to get up to the bases of the upper two drops, a dangerous and not-so-easy scramble. In addition to its natural beauty, Nambe Falls is also known for its cultural significance. It is located near the Nambe Pueblo, a Native American community with a rich history and cultural heritage. Petroglyphs are prehistoric rock carvings that can be seen at waterfalls.
This sedate place provides an opportunity to experience true nature, enjoy the waterfalls, and feel the breeze. Nambé Falls is a real pleasure that can be repeated once in your life. This spot is for all families with children, outdoor recreation programs, and large groups. Visitors to Nambe Falls can take a scenic hike through the forest to reach the waterfall, where they can enjoy the sights and sounds of the falling water. The area around the falls is also a popular spot for fishing, with Nambe Creek providing a home to a variety of fish species.

Trail of Nambe Falls

If you are a hiker and love hiking, then it is highly recommended to take either option available here. First, you must be directed to the dry or wet trail. Not more than a mile of trail will take you on a gentle incline to an aerial view of the two-tiered waterfall.  This fall is nestled into the Nambé Pueblo; hence, you want to take more risks for a challenging and refreshing hike.
Then be brave enough to opt for the quarter-mile wet trail. But be sure to wear the proper waterproof shoes, as the water is extremely cold. This scenic trail will take you winding and crossing the river upstream for half of it. A worthwhile hike makes your toe freeze, but the reward is awesome.
You can sit around the falls, relaxing your mind and body with the sheer sound of waterfalls. In close proximity to nature, it is a popular quote that “Nature heals your mind and body.”. You may also feel the cold breeze and take selfies and photographs. You have enough time in the summer, but be aware of the limited hours in other seasons. Also, more water flow is observed in the early spring and summer seasons.
So, this trail is mainly used for walking, hiking, and nature trips. Some scattered vegetation obstructs the view of the lower drop of Nambe Falls. Don’t take any risk for precarious scrambling exposure to the deep drop-off present. In the end, since you’re already wet, why not take a heart-pounding dip into each of the pools below each tier?
