In the Maldives, are you looking for a serene and peaceful beach to relax on? There is no better beach than Thoondu Beach a white sand beach located north of Fuvahmulah in the Maldives. Fuvahmulah’s most famous feature is located in the Dhadimagu ward. On special occasions like Maahefun, these numbers are much higher. Every day, hundreds of people visit the beach. Fuvahmulah’s Onoll Council passed a decree establishing Thoondu as a Protected area, as well as the Maldives government, declared it a Protected area on 12 June 2012.
An abundance of marine life is found at Thoondu Beach, where turquoise waters meet powdery white sands. When the waves break on Thoondu’s beach, they create a “washing machine effect.” It is an unforgettable experience to be caught in one of these waves. In spite of the strong currents, the beauty of the beach and opportunities for surfing makes it a popular place for swimming.
White small round pebbles form the sand there, which is unusually smooth and shiny. In no other place in the world are these kinds of pebbles found except in Fuvahmulah and they sparkle even after being taken away from the beach. Pebbles from Thoondu are frequently collected as souvenirs by visitors to the island. Surfers of all levels will find Thoondu’s waves ideal for both beginners and experts. The best time to surf is between June and August, during the southwest monsoon.
The Thoondu is often characterized by a phenomenon known as Bissaaveli. By moving the sand of the beach towards the edge of the reef, part of the Bissaaveli is created, surrounded by the sand and island shore. Locals love to watch this natural event, which attracts hundreds – perhaps thousands – of visitors. A well-formed Bissaveli creates a natural shallow swimming pool where locals enjoy swimming when it is well-formed.
As with Bissaaveli, this phenomenon is unique to the Maldivian archipelago’s Fuvahmulah. There is no other beach on the island, or in the Maldives, with pebbles that are smooth and shiny. The unique conditions and natural beauty of Thoondu Beach attract tourists from around the world. There are daily flights between Fuvahmulah and Male, which are connected by Fuvahmulah’s airport. There is no better place to relax and unwind than Thoondu Beach if you like the beach and want to be surrounded by nature. Taking a dip in the ocean and sunbathing are both fun activities on the beach.
